Consumers Looking for Deals from Home
An article from AdvertisingAge today provides research results regarding recent shopping habits of grocery retail consumers. The article summerizes that in past years shoppers made their purchasing decicions in the store hence the success of instore marketing thru impulse buing and other marketing features. It goes on to indicate a change in shopping trends.
Research from Information Resources Inc. shows that by the end of 2008, 76% of shoppers were making their purchasing decicions at home before going to the store. That number is up by 60%!
These knowledge shoppers are using the Internet to find deals on products – brand loyalty is still high – before going to do the actual shopping. Consumers are building shopping lists at home using online circulars and other sales as well as finding online coupons. Consumers are finding it cheaper to take the time to research online, create a list, then go shopping instead of going to the store unaremed with any data at all.
